In 2007 the Bouchard-Taylor Commission on the
issue of cultural and religious diversity, and reasonable accommodation
has contributed to renewed interest among the general population
of Quebec in the matters of social cohesion and peace.
For over past forty-five years, our Institute has provided social
agents with tested tools to help prevent interracial, intercultural,
and interreligious tensions both in our society and worldwide. As
a non-profit organization, IIM must continually seek funding to
carry out its work in the following three sectors:
- Research-action on intercultural
social issues, such as religions and identity issue of
the youth in the schools; immigrant women; mental health of the
elderly in the immigrant communities; development of resources
to prevent antisocial behaviors and criminality among the youth
in diverse cultural communities and so on;
- Intercultural training
and teaching : for school
professionals, social and health-care workers, community workers,
other public institutions;
- Intercultural resources
and services.
We receive very little public funding for all these activities
and services, and the economic recession further diminished
our resources during this past year, forcing us to cut back our
projects despite increased demands. We are hoping that the improving
economic climate will be reflected in increased donations this year
from our collaborators, friends, and users of IIM services. We are,
therefore, enclosing additional information on our current projects,
and request your support during our annual fundraiser.
Thanks to your generous donation, which is tax-deductible,
the Institute will be able to continue offering services that meet
urgent social needs. As a result, we can avoid intercultural misunderstandings
and, together, contribute to dialogue, understanding, solidarity,
and justice in our pluralistic society. By following the intercultural
path, we are building a fairer and more peaceful world.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
